Do you think Alan Jackson feels about Garth
Brooks the way Jan Brady felt about Marcia?
Jackson was the second biggest selling male
country singer of the 1990s. Brooks was first.
Now, the headlines about Tuesday's CMA Awards
are not about old reliable Jackson but about
Brooks coming out of his semi-retirement to
perform his new single, “Good Ride Cowboy,” as a
tribute to the late singer and rodeo champion
Chris LeDoux.
Jackson will be performing on the show, too,
and he also happens to be up for two major awards:
Entertainer of the Year and male vocalist.
Ah, Jackson probably doesn't care — he's got a
rep as one of the nicest guys in country music. He
may be an understated soul, but he gives a great
concert, powered by an ingratiating presence,
smooth vocals and a treasure trove of hits — he's
had more than 30 #1 singles, and he wrote or
co-wrote more than 2/3 of them.
See what we mean when he, along with Sara Evans
and The Wrights, play Mohegan Sun Arena in
concerts tonight and Friday. Evans, by the way, is
also nominated for a CMA award, as female
vocalist.
